From St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tracy, Calif.
Women from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tracy, Calif., used the annual “Share the Scoop” event to witness to their community about the many ‘flavors’ of God’s love.
“In support of the Ablaze! movement to reach 100 million people worldwide with the Gospel by 2017, more than 300 women attended an outreach event in Tracy, Calif., on August 22, 2009. The second annual ‘Share the Scoop’ gathering was held at the renovated Grand Theatre in downtown Tracy. (The first annual ‘Share the Scoop’ in 2008 shared stories of hope, faith, and love with 265 women in attendance).
“Speakers shared how Jesus Christ is at work in their lives, touching hearts and souls of those in attendance. Ordinary women shared stories of various ‘flavors’ of how Jesus makes a difference when faced with extraordinary circumstances. Our walk in this life is not always as plain as vanilla; for some it can be a rocky road. Life can be as refreshing as peppermint and as diverse as pistachio. It can be as rich as chocolate and as sweet as rainbow sherbet!
“The event’s motto comes from Psalm 34:8: ‘Come, taste and see …. that the Lord is good.’ The Praise Team from St. Paul Lutheran Church opened the day with the song ‘Taste and See.’ Sharing in song, dance, and prayer were the flavors of the day! One scoop is never enough when we taste God’s Word. Rich and fresh flavors are experienced when one digests a daily diet of God’s Word. One ice-cream ‘maker’ is always enough—our God of the Christian Bible. Everyone enjoyed scoops of Dryer’s ice cream following the program.
“The mission of Share the Scoop is to fan out into our community and beyond to reach all women, so that the flavors of Jesus Christ can be shared. The objectives are:
S hare the power of Christ at work in the lives of women.
C ombine and join efforts with Christian churches of our community to seek the lost.
O ffer an invitation to make a commitment for Jesus Christ.
O pportunities for spiritual growth are presented at the event.
P rovide prayer time so women can respond to God’s Word.
“How many were saved that day? We don’t know, but God does. By sharing stories, God plants seeds and moves His people one step closer to becoming a follower of Christ. Ephesians 4:16 was carried out. Several Christian churches of the Tracy community made up the planning team for the event. They partnered together to work towards one common cause: sharing the Good News! Growth and love are building the community of Tracy, and each part does its work—all for the glory of God and the growth of His Kingdom!”
