One Response to “Seeing hope in the midst of Haiti destruction”

  1. Mark Henshaw says:

We saw a news story about relief folks handing out tarpaulins in Haiti the other day. My wife had a thought I wanted to pass along: We live in Upstate NY, the home of the Hodenosaunee/Iroqouis, “People of The Longhouse” – they used communal shelters because they were efficient: Why not the same for Haiti? Materials required for “pole barns” are cheap, easy to transport, and quick to put-up. A large pole-barn structure could provide several families with more secure shelter against the rainy season in Haiti than individual plastic-covered shacks and probably would be safer in the wind. They could build partitions themselves for privacy… We think this is an idea worth passing to aid officials on-the-ground in Haiti – can LCMS pass it along? Thanks!
