Summer Outreach Team – URGENT NEED

“The Lutheran Church—Hong Kong Synod (LCHKS) has many outreach activities throughout their church body. The LCMS has had the privilege of being a partner in some of those activities. GEO (Globally Engaged in Outreach) missionaries, who serve for 1-2 years, have been working with the LCHKS to offer English classes since 2009. This summer, a short-term team of 6-10 people have been requested to assist the LCHKS in their summer outreach activities. Short-term missionaries will begin their eight weeks in Hong Kong by assisting with a summer camp lead by the GEO missionaries. Next, they will participate with local Hong Kong Synod schools in their seventh-grade orientation activities by incorporating English and Scripture through songs, skits, games, etc. Finally, the team will lead a 10-day summer outreach camp. With God’s help, witnessing will take place through the personal relationships formed in each of these activities and the Christian actions preformed by the team. This is an ideal opportunity for education majors or others who are looking for a positive way to make a difference this summer!”

Relationship Builder through English as a Foreign Language

“They pass you on the street, thumbs rapidly texting; iPods constantly humming with music. High school students here travel in small groups, never wanting to be the one who sticks out. And that isn’t so different from the United States. But looking up, you see a double-decker bus rolling past. The smell of incense is pervasive. Two things are clear: you aren’t in Kansas anymore, and God has opened a door for you here. Show them Christ as you share their life, their world.”

God knows us and what we need. He sent his Son, Jesus, to earth, so that we may have life, and have it to the full. Through faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection, our relationship with God is restored and we have life. LCMS World Mission’s GEO and short-term missionary programs focus on building relationships and sharing the Gospel with people through those relationships, as well as connecting locals to career missionaries and national churches to continue building relationships. The people touched by GEO and short-term missionaries need the same thing we all do: true life in Christ.  By serving for 1-2 years or even two weeks, you can help our missionaries and national churches in their efforts to introduce people to a true life in Christ.
