Hong Kong Lutheran Social Services celebrates 35 years of ministry

Hong Kong Lutheran Social Services (HKLSS) celebrated its 35th anniversary with a special banquet on Jan. 8, 2012, with most of its 1,000 employees in attendance. HKLSS Chairman Tony Lau commended the staff for its team spirit and spoke of embracing the challenges ahead as HKLSS moves on to serve the needy in Hong Kong. Music for the celebration was provided by HKLSS leaders and staff. HKLSS is a ministry of The Lutheran Church–Hong Kong Synod, which is a partner church of the LCMS.

In 2011, HKLSS provided services to more than 55,000 clients in Hong Kong, as well as serving an audience of more than 380,000 through its hotline and phone counseling services. HKLSS provides services through almost 50 service units including nurseries, children and youth centers, substance abuse counseling, school social work, community centers, community development in remote areas, foster care, elderly centers, elderly rehabilitation centers, rehabilitation services for the mentally handicapped and elderly homes. HKLSS also provides a variety of projects such as school drug testing, 3G counseling services for hearing impaired, hotline counseling for parents and a Gospel hotline.
