Students from The Lutheran Church—Hong Kong Synod, a partner/sister church of the LCMS, recently traveled to South Dakota for a short-term mission trip. The group of students helped with sorting donations at a food pantry, and were interviewed by a local news station.

Ed Nicklas and Rev. Dustin Lappe. Nicklas shared the mission revitalization story of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Plantation, Fla., and Lappe shared the church-planting story of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Aurora, Colo.
The next Church Planter Assessment Center (CPAC) is scheduled for Aug. 1-3, 2010, at Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church in Omaha, Neb. Registration for this insightful experience is open until July 12, 2010. The CPAC is a powerful tool for clarifying whether a person’s capacities are a good fit for church-planting ministry.

LCMS World Mission, with thanks to God and its faithful supporters, celebrates the results of the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members’ vote on how to distribute $1 million for charity. LCMS World Mission is due to receive $112,315 as a result of the voting. In total, LCMS ministries received $304,437.
During the service, I tried to explain what was happening, but most of all, I just prayed that somehow the Spirit would touch their hearts. I knew God was at work when our pastor included a story about the Taj Mahal. I knew that God, who is greater than I can imagine, was lifting us up in ways that are not our ways, but truly His gifts.

On May 16, 2010, many LCMS congregations celebrated Armed Forces Sunday to recognize and lift up in prayer the men and women who have served and continue to serve in our nation’s military. This day of remembrance and thanks is a great opportunity to encourage a chaplain or other member of the armed forces in their service to God and our country.
